I love them critters, big and small
I'm studying Veterinary Medicine in University and work at an animal shelter (volunteer of course)
Anyways, today I had a little puppy die on me.. her name was Pheonix, I named her that because she rose above the ashes and was in a way reborn.. or so I though.
So Pheonix was a little huskie puppy, who when she was brought to the shelter was on death's door. She had been confiscated from her owners, who had tortured the poor thing beyond belief...
She had one eye, the other had been poked out, and she was blind in the other eye. She had no hair, and her skin was badly burnt... why you ask? Because the assholes had decided it would be fun to set her on fire...
They locked her in a small room and rarely fed her. She had multiple internal injuries, probably from various other incidents of abuse.
But when I held her and cared for her.. it seemed like she really wanted to fight to live..
She really was recovering quite well and had made remarkable progress.
But unfortunately it seems her injuries were too much. She died of septic shock due to internal organ failure...
She died in my arms...
Unfortunately it's something I deal with more than I like... I just don't understand why humans can be so cruel.....
