Comparing classic English  Literature to contemporary North American Literature, which do you  prefer?
What  are the main differences that you like or dislike?
Which are your favourite books and  writers?

I find that American Literature tends to have less likable heroes.
The Catcher in the Rye is a good example, Holden Caulfield is a douchebag

Whereas Classical English lit tends to have more developed rounded characters (in my opinion) in which "good people" are caught in tragic situations and therefore the characters are more likable (example, Oliver Twist, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, etc)
